Tyler and I just got back from Austin, TX! That is such a cool city & we had the absolute best time! It was nice to have no agenda for 3 days and to relax. We saw a lot of the city & ate such good food. I totally recommend you checking out Austin if you ever have the chance!
Free Things To Do
The Capital
Take a tour of the Capital. It’s very informative and interesting. Our tour guide was energetic and knew so much about the history about the Capital. Not to mention, it’s free! We saw the rooms of the Senate and House of Representatives. I was just waiting for Olivia Pope from Scandal to walk out! Definitely a must do!
Mural Hunting
Austin is filled with rich modern and retro designs everywhere! There are a ton of walls that are beautiful and worth stopping and snapping a pic. Here are some of my favorites!
Greetings from Austin // S. 1st and Annie Street (Roadhouse Relics)
I love you so much // S. Congress & James (Jo’s Coffee)
You’re my Butter Half // E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd & Alamo St
Give // S. Congress & Gibson (Toms)
Smile // S. Congress & Elizabeth (Hey Cupcake!)
The Alamo
Just shy of an hour and a half is San Antonio from Austin. It’s totally worth the drive! The Alamo holds a lot of history and is fun to see. I’m not going to lie, it’s very underwhelming (it’s small since most of it got destroyed because of city expansion) but cool to see nonetheless. Plus it’s located near the Riverwalk that is gorgeous and filled with restaurants that overlook the river. Must do!
Eats and Drinks
Breakfast & Coffee places
Austin has some GOOD eats. Slap yourself good. Austin is food truck capital of the world & every truck we ate at never disappointed us. Here are some we loved, have you been at any?
Gourdoughs – everything has a donut in it (burgers, salads, everything!!)
Flat track
Seventh Flag
Figure 8
Jo’s
Veracruz – they have some of the best breakfast tacos i’ve ever had!
Tacos
Not only is Austin known for their good BBQ, they are known for their phenomenal tacos!
Torchy’s (you can substitute your lettuce for queso, need I say more?!)
Juan in a Million
Veracruz – You have to get the Migas tacos!
BBQ
Franklin – rumor has it that this is the BEST BBQ in the world. We drove by and the lines were out of this world. If you don’t mind waiting over 3 hours for food, you must go here…and let me know how it is!
La Barbecue
Micklethwait
Coopers Old Time Pit
Happy Hour
Small Victory
Contigo
UCHIKO – this place is incredible, it is on the pricier side but definitely worth it!. Hit up the happy hour and try out all their social snacks. They have the best brussels sprouts!
Breweries
We are big breweries/distillery fans. I love going to different cities and tasting all the local beers that you can’t buy anywhere else. I would suggest going to as many breweries as you can and trying out the local stuff. Be adventurous & try something new. Austin also offers brewery tours that drive you around and serve as your DD. Safety first!
